Joining a Northern Apprenticeship kick starts your skilled career in train planning, control, customer service, engineering and more. You will benefit from the full support of our dedicated team of Operational Trainers, Apprentice Coaches and Quality Assurance Specialists – who are all committed to helping you earn while you learn, in roles that lead to recognised qualifications.

Northern’s apprentices attend college two days a month and have a personal tutor to assess their skills, set tailored assignments, and guide professional development towards gaining qualifications. We’ll expect you to work on your assignments outside of the classroom too, and we’ll give you all the resources you need – including plenty of study days - to help you succeed.

Northern apprentices work as a team with trainees from other specialisms to develop and drive station-improvement projects, offering the opportunity to build a wide range of skills. Teams work closely with local businesses, the public, and even local government, and as the scheme includes developing funding bids and presenting results to Northern Senior Management, it is a unique opportunity for our apprentices to showcase their star quality.
