Immerse yourself in history...

Take a trip to visit Newcastle Cathedral and uncover the rich heritage and history of this peaceful place of worship. Founded in 1091, the cathedral can be found right in the city centre and only a six minute walk from the train station.

The Literary & Philosophical Society, affectionately known as the Lit and Phil library, is just 5 minutes away from the station and, despite being right in the city centre, is a place of silence and tranquillity – perfect for taking some time to explore their 170,000 books of both classics and modern gems.

If you love taking a trip to an outdoor market then Quayside Sunday markets is the place for you. A standing feature of the city, the markets have been part of local culture since the 1700s. With stalls selling everything from handmade jewellery to fresh food and more, even if you’re not buying, it’s well worth a visit to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy performances from the many street artists which make the Sunday markets such a special weekly event.
