Case Studies
Examples of community activity
Every year we will make funding available to support station adoption and community activity. Our groups deliver a wide range of schemes, here are a few examples:
Station Adoption Case Study - Friends of Nunthorpe station
The ‘Friends of Nunthorpe station’ are a group of local volunteers, many of which are also members of the Nunthorpe and Marton knitters. They bring the station alive with their wonderful knitted displays to tie in with different calendar events throughout the year.
Station Adoption Scheme Case Study 4 - Beyond Boundaries at Commondale
Commondale Station on the Esk Valley Railway lies within the North York Moors National Park. The unstaffed station has been adopted through a volunteer program, organised by a locally–based community project Beyond Boundaries.
Seed Corn Fund Case Study - Flimby Primary school
Having started off with a small festive banner on platform fence in December 2018, Flimby Primary School have really embraced the ethos and values of station adoption and the impact it can have on a small community.
