Engineering works, service changes and improvement projects

To keep the rail network running safely and reliably, we regularly carry out engineering and improvement works — usually overnight or at weekends. When this happens, we’ll arrange alternative transport, like rail replacement buses, to help you get where you need to be.

Please bear in mind that journeys might take a little longer than usual, and some services may start later or finish earlier than the normal timetable during this time. 

From time to time, bigger projects mean services could be disrupted for a longer period. We’ll share details of these major works on this page well in advance, so you can plan ahead.

Current major engineering, disruption and station works:

• Transpennine Route Upgrade
  • Weekends from 29 March until 11 May - trains between Leeds and Huddersfield will run as far as Mirfield, extending to Brighouse and Halifax. Change at Brighouse for connections to Huddersfield
  • Buses will also replace trains between Huddersfield and Lockwood for train connections to Sheffield
