A great walking route for those looking for something shorter this autumn is Otley Chevin Park in Leeds. Just 2.7 miles long, the peak of this peaceful walking path named Surprise View provides amazing sights where you can see as far as Simon’s Seat!
North Dean Woods Norland Circular Walk
Starting Point: West Vale
A bit of a longer and moderate autumn walk with a steady incline, the North Dean Woods and Norland Circular is 9.3 miles in total and will take you along the River Calder. During the walk, you’ll be treated to views of the Norland Moors and beautiful oak trees as they show off their autumn shades.

As a small patch of woodland, Chorlton Ees Nature Reserve is a great location for a short leisurely stroll. Consisting of 58 hectares, it mixes woodland with meadows and will take you along the River of Mersey. Plus, there’s lots of great pubs and a cafe nearby if you get peckish after this autumn walk!
Philips Park Walk, Manchester
Starting Point: Philips Park Play Area
Philips Park is one of the largest parks in Greater Manchester and has existed since the 1800s! Covering 31 acres and located just next to Manchester Stadium, it’s perfect for a longer woodland walk this autumn. With its reputation for being rich in wildlife, you may even spot an adorable robin or fuzzy squirrel.

Rivelin Valley Park Trail
Starting Point: Rivelin Valley Road Car Park
Great for a healthy family walk or a stroll with your four-legged friend, Rivelin Valley Park is a 2.5-mile trail that will take you along River Rivelin and features stunning mini-waterfalls. The Rivelin Park Café is the perfect place to stop for lunch and kids can burn energy at the park's playground too.
Ecclesall Woods
Starting Point: Woodland Discovery Centre, Abbey Lane
As the largest ancient woodland in West Yorkshire, Ecclesall Woods in Sheffield is perfect for taking a long woodland walk this autumn. Totalling 350 acres, the area is made up of three smaller areas of woodland and has a variety of routes you can enjoy on foot or bike.

National Trust Quarry Bank Giant Castle Walk

Discover the autumn colours of the Western Woods on this beautiful 3.4-mile National Trust walking trail that follows the River Bollin. On this route you’ll also see some of Styal’s interesting medieval buildings, which tie in perfectly with the autumnal tones.

Are you a wizard? If your name isn’t Harry, you’re probably not. Luckily, that’s not necessary to enjoy the National Trust’s Wizard’s Wander walking trail at Alderley Edge. Aptly named for an autumn walk, this is an easy woodland walking route of only 1 mile, where you can take in the nearby nature and enjoy the fresh air.

Acomb Wood Walk
Starting Point: Acomb Wood Drive
This small and peaceful stretch of National Trust woodland is located just a stone’s throw away from nearby urban areas. You can follow a circular route around the woods in just 20-30 minutes depending on your pace. If you’re lucky you may even spot an owl nestled in a tree!
Askham Bog Walk & Nature Reserve
Starting Point: Askham Bar Park & Ride
The term bog may not conjure scenic imagery of a beautiful woodland, but that’s exactly what you’ll find on this Woodland Trust route. Once a lake, the area is now home to an array of trees and plant species and has benches where you can stop to take a break, enjoy the birdsong, and take in the autumn views.
