Located near Blackpool, St. Anne's Beach is a haven for dogs and owners alike. The huge sandy shore is ideal for long walks, digging in the sand and splashing in the sea. However, there are some restrictions on where dogs can go on the beach during the summer months – keep an eye on local signage to keep you right. The beach is right next to the promenade gardens with waterfalls, duck ponds and more to explore with your four-legged friend.
Saltburn Beach, Saltburn-by-the-Sea
Nearest station: Saltburn
Saltburn Beach is among the best beaches in the North, backed by picturesque cliffs and colourful beach huts. Retaining much of its charm from the Victorian era, you can take a ride on the Saltburn Cliff Tramway with your dog down to the shore. Like St Anne's Beach, there are restrictions on where dogs can go during the summer months, but they are free to roam where they like in the winter. Along the promenade, you'll find a row of beach huts that are available to hire and welcome dogs, too.
Whitby Beach, Whitby
Nearest station: Whitby
Whitby Beach offers a fantastic mix of history, beauty, and dog-friendly facilities. The beach welcomes dogs without restrictions from October to May each year, so it's the perfect choice for a warm spring day or some winter sun. At the West Pier, you'll find a rocky cove that's a prime spot for your dog to find some driftwood. After a stroll on the sand, you can explore the town’s charming streets and visit the many dog-friendly cafés and pubs, like The Buck Inn and The Dolphin, amongst others.
Marske Sands Beach, Marske-by-the-Sea
Nearest station: Marske
As the name suggests, Marske Sands is predominantly a sandy beach with ample space for your pooch to stretch their legs. When the tide is out, it has a nice, flat surface that is easy to explore – just bring their favourite ball for hours of fun on the beach. The nearby village of Marske-by-the-Sea has plenty of dog-friendly places to explore, as well as takeaway options to take to the beach with you. Hop on a Northern train with your four-legged friend to Marske and enjoy a day out beside the sea.
Scarborough Beach, Scarborough
Nearest station: Scarborough
One of the most popular beaches in the North, Scarborough Beach welcomes dogs of all shapes and sizes. With two large sandy bays separated by Scarborough Castle, it's the perfect location for a day out with the dog exploring all the seaside town has to offer. The North Bay is great for splashing in the many rock pools when the tide is out, while the South Bay has a variety of dog-friendly cafés and shops to browse. Seasonal restrictions apply in the summer months, so keep an eye on signs to keep you right.
