Dog-friendly days out in Sheffield
In the mood for a day out with your dog in Sheffield? There's no shortage of dog-friendly places to visit, things to do and walks to be had. We've pulled together some of the best places to take your four-legged friend in the city known for its industrial roots. We love to welcome dogs on Northern trains, so grab your tickets in advance and get ready to explore the best the North has to offer with your best friend!
Dog-friendly parks in Sheffield
A favourite among locals, Endcliffe Park offers a mix of open fields, woodland trails, and a charming café with locally sourced food, eggs and Fairtrade teas and coffee. The park’s Porter Brook river is ideal for dogs who love a splash, and the walking trails provide plenty of opportunities to explore. There is also a large children's playground to keep the kids busy, too!
If you're looking for a secure place to exercise your dog, Rivelin Valley Dog Park offers the perfect solution. This safe field in the heart of Rivelin Valley can be booked by the hour to allow your dog to run about without worrying about anyone else – ideal for reactive or nervous dogs. Check out their Facebook page for the latest availability
Graves Park is Sheffield's largest park in the south of the city with heaps of grassland and woodland to explore, as well as steams for your dog to cool off in. There is a café to enjoy, as well as two children's playgrounds and even an Animal Farm – however, this is not dog-friendly. Due to its popularity, it can get busy but given its size, you'll usually be able to enjoy your time here regardless.
Dog-friendly cafés and pubs in Sheffield
Located in the heart of Sheffield, Tamper Coffee is perfect for a coffee break or light lunch. Their food is Australasian-inspired if you fancy trying something a bit different, thanks to the Kiwi roots of the owners. Dogs are welcome in the front takeaway area and in the outside courtyard, and the staff are always happy to provide water for thirsty pups.
Another highly recommended coffee shop is Couch, located in the Cathedral Quarter of the city. The industrial interior showcases its charm and welcomes families, students and furry visitors alike. Stop by for a delicious breakfast, brunch or lunch (we love the grilled cheese sandwich). You can also hire the venue for private functions, which is a sign of its versatility.
For something more traditional, head along to the Dog & Partridge Inn, which offers a range of cask beers and has won multiple awards for the best pub in the UK. As the name suggests, you can also book a stay here and bring your dog along for the night. They allow two pets per room and they must be kept on a lead when exploring the premises.
Dog-friendly places to visit in Sheffield
If you're in the mood for some retail therapy, we recommend Sharrow Vale Road. Home to a variety of independent shops, cafés and businesses, it is perfect for a leisurely stroll while browsing. It hosts a market three times a year, which welcomes around 100 traders selling locally produced goods, food from all over the world, and much more.
For the animal lovers, Heely City Farm welcomes well-behaved dogs on leads that won't scare the animals. The community-run farm is home to goats, pigs, poultry and many more, as well as having a small animal house to visit (although dogs are not permitted in there). As a registered charity, you can support the farm by making a donation or by buying items from their wishlist. Check out their events throughout the year and stop by for a wholesome family day out in Sheffield.
Explore Sheffield’s industrial past at Kelham Island Museum. Completely free to enter with donations accepted, the museum showcases 300 years of Sheffield's history. While the indoor exhibits are off-limits for dogs, the outdoor areas are dog-friendly, and the riverside location is lovely for a walk.
