Newcastle Castle

Newcastle has its very own castle which has been an important landmark in the city since the 12th Century. The castle which gave the city its name is located a short walk from Newcastle Central Station and the Quayside and is a must-visit attraction for families as well as visitors who want to uncover the region’s rich history.

Visitors to Newcastle Castle can uncover the often-gruesome history of Newcastle by taking part in tours, exploring exhibitions and joining in with family-friendly events before climbing to the roof top to take in spectacular views across the city and across the chimney tops to the iconic Quayside.

Neighbouring landmark, Newcastle Cathedral, can be viewed from the castle or visitors can continue their exploration of the region’s history by wandering through the lofty cloisters of the stunning, Grade 1 listed building which dates back to the early 14th Century.
