Easily accessible from the train station, is Sheffield’s beautiful Botanical Gardens.

The gardens were originally purchased in 1834 and were fortunate to have some of the era’s leading experts involved in its creation including Joseph Paxton of Chatsworth fame and Robert Marnock who went on to become one of the leading landscape gardeners of the 19th century. Now fully restored to their original style, the Botanical Gardens are recognised as one of the best gardenesque landscapes in Britain.

The beauty of the gardens is available to everyone, as its open daily and free of charge to access. It’s visitors aren’t restricted to gardening experts either – it’s a beautiful space to enjoy for everyone, to sit and reflect, gather your thoughts and plan your next move.

Either to embrace the nearby quirky and independent shops and cafes around Ecclesall Road and Sharrowvale or to step out further along the footpaths of the River Porter.

Occasionally the gardens are closed for special events but in themselves they are not to be missed – visit in September to experience Art in the Gardens – the biggest outdoor exhibition in the north of England. Local and regional artists, using all kinds of mediums, working in the sunshine and sharing their skills really is worth travelling for.
