Huddersfield to Barnsley line closure

Between Saturday 23 and Sunday 31 July 2022, Network Rail is undertaking work on the viaduct at Penistone and requires the railway line between Huddersfield and Barnsley to be closed, with buses replacing trains as shown below.

Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 July, and Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 July

Buses replace trains between Huddersfield, Denby Dale, Penistone and Barnsley.

Trains will continue to run between:

• Barnsley, Meadowhall and Sheffield.

 

Monday 25 until Friday 29 July

Buses replace trains between Denby Dale, Penistone and Barnsley

Trains will continue to run between:

• Huddersfield and Denby Dale
• Barnsley, Meadowhall and Sheffield.

 

Please note:

• Except at peak-times, Wombwell, Elsecar and Chapeltown stations will see a reduced service.

Rail replacement bus stop locations are listed below and can be found on dedicated green posters at all stations directly impacted by the works.

Please purchase a ticket before boarding either by app or from the ticket vending machine at stations as Penalty Fares will continue to be in place during the line closures.

The bus stops on Birch Road, outside the Methodist Church:

• To Huddersfield - opposite the Methodist Church
• To Denby Dale and Barnsley - by the ticket office.

The bus stop at the station front.

On Riding Fields, near the station entrance.

Stocksmoor

The bus stops on Station Road, near the Clothiers Arms:

• To Huddersfield - outside the Clothiers Arms
• To Denby Dale and Barnsley - opposite the Clothiers Arms.

Shepley

On Station Road, near the station entrance.

Denby Dale

The bus stop at the station turning circle on Bromley Bank.

Penistone

The station car park.

Silkstone Common

The bus stops on Knabbs Lane:

• To Barnsley - bus stop by the stairs to the station
• To Denby Dale and Huddersfield - opposite the stairs to the station.

Dodworth

On Station Road:

• To Barnsley - buses will pull into the station car park
• To Denby Dale and Huddersfield - by the level crossing, opposite Screwfix.

Barnsley

Outside the station front, on Schwabisch Gmund Way.
