Better Stations are coming to Northern network - Moston
As part of an ambitious modernisation plan Northern is committed to bringing improvements to our stations during the next three years.
This programme will see a combination of new or refurbished shelters and waiting rooms, refurbished toilets, new seating, new ticket vending machines, improved security and lighting and accessibility improvements installed at all stations managed by Northern.
The first chance to see some of these features will come next month (April) when work starts at five trial stations at Moston, Cattal, Ravensthorpe, Adlington and Cramlington where we will be installing a selection of waiting shelters, customer information points, benches and samples of the waiting shelter refurbishment we will be undertaking.
Liam Sumpter, Regional Director (Central) for Northern, said: “The work at Moston will give our customers in Greater Manchester the chance to see some of the proposed new features actually out there on the network.
“Moston will benefit from the replacement of the existing waiting shelters, as well as new seating. We want people to be able to see – and experience – the proposed improvements rather than just hear about them.
“Most importantly, we want to know what our customers think before we commit to rolling out these and other improvements at all stations across the north of England.”
The features installed throughout March and April will not be the final versions, and Northern is calling on as many customers as possible to visit the test stations and provide feedback on the new equipment.
Liam added: “We have a number of options in terms of the improvements we can make to our stations and we want to ensure that we give our customers a voice and take their insight into account when we make final decisions. We want to prove that we are listening to the people that matter the most to us.”
Work is scheduled to begin at the trial stations March and should be completed in early April.
