Northern, the UK’s largest train operator outside of London, is reminding its customers that services will start to wind down across the network from 18.00 on Christmas Eve, with very few trains running after 21.00.
Services will not run on Christmas Day or Boxing Day and a normal service will resume on Tuesday 27 December, except for a few very early morning services.
New Year’s Eve will again see services winding down from 18.00, with very few trains running after 21.00 and services will start a little later on New Year’s Day*.
Normal service will resume on Monday 2 January 2017.
Customers are advised to check northernrailway.co.uk or National Rail Enquiries (nationalrail.co.uk) for the latest times and services.

Local train services on the following routes do not operate on New Year’s Day:
- Newcastle – Carlisle
- Newcastle – Morpeth – Chathill
- Newcastle – Sunderland – Middlesbrough
- Bishop Auckland – Darlington – Middlesbrough – Saltburn
- Middlesbrough – Whitby
