Headingley station given a makeover by volunteers

One of Northern’s West Yorkshire stations has been spruced up thanks to a team of volunteers – including the addition of new colourful artwork.

A group of more than 40 people from Northern, Yorkshire Asian Business Association, Yorkshire Cricket, Headingley East Allotment Group, ISS property management services and students from Halifax Station Partnership spent the day giving the station a makeover.

The team spent time litter-picking and tidying up the platforms and surrounding areas.

New artwork celebrating the station’s cricketing ties has also been installed on the waiting shelter.

Kerry Peters, regional director at Northern said: “I’d like to thank everyone who volunteered to spend the day at Headingly – there has been an amazing transformation in just one day.

“Our community partners are the heartbeat of the railway and we’re extremely proud to work closely with them to deliver such a wide-ranging positive impact for the North of England.”

Northern is the second largest train operator in the UK, with 2,500 services a day to more than 500 stations across the North of England.
