Northern calls on Liverpool visitors to plan ahead for Saturday travel
On Saturday 26 May Liverpool take on Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League Final, with the match set to be shown on big screens across the city.
The city also hosts the Tall Ships Regatta across the bank holiday weekend with tens of thousands of people expected to travel into the city.
On the same day RMT strike action will severely limit the number of Northern trains operating to and from Liverpool, with amended timetables in place and few trains running after early evening.
Sharon Keith, Regional Director at Northern, said: “We know there will be thousands of Liverpool fans who want to travel to the city to watch the final and soak up the atmosphere – and there will be just as many people wanting to see the splendour of the tall ships.
“We’ll do everything we can to run services to get people to Liverpool, but we won’t have our usual number of trains running and there will be no Northern trains later in the evening to get people home again.
“We really need people to think carefully about their travel, make sure they have plans to get to and from the city and consider whether trains are the best option for them.”
