Northern calls for patience from UCI Road Race fans in Harrogate
That’s the message from Northern as cycling fans make their way home from the day’s UCI Road World Championship event at Harrogate.
Thousands of fans are still in the town as the festivities continue at the fanzone, meaning trains from Harrogate are likely to be extremely busy for the rest of the night (Saturday).
Steve Hopkinson, Regional Director at Northern, said: “Despite the weather its been a fantastic day of sport and festivity in Harrogate and we are working hard to make sure everyone’s journey home goes as smoothly as possible.
“We have a queuing system in place at Harrogate station to get our customers onto the trains in an organised way and we need everyone to be patient as we work to get cycling fans where they need to be tonight.”
And, once everyone is on the move, thoughts will turn to getting the railway ready for another day of elite sport on Sunday.
Steve added: “Saturday has been a busy day and we expect Sunday to be even busier as the men’s road race arrives in Harrogate and people travel to the town from all over the country.
“Again, I would call for everyone travelling by rail to add a little extra time for journeys. All services to and from Harrogate will be busy and, because of queuing, customers may have to wait longer than usual to catch their train.
“We have extra services and extra carriages in operation and will do all we can to keep people on the move, but we need all customers to work with us to help make the final day of the World Championships a success for all.”
