Northern employees ‘on-track’ to rail glory at national awards ceremony next week

People working for Northern across the region are ‘on-track’ to pick up national awards for their contribution to local rail services.

In total, eight individuals and the entire ticket gateline team at Blackpool North station have been nominated for prestigious RailStaff Awards – a scheme that recognises people from across the rail industry.

Those up for awards include:

  • Becky Styles, a regional community and sustainability manager working across Greater Manchester, who has been nominated in the ‘Sustainability & Net Zero’ category
  • Doreen Southworth, who works at Blackburn station in Lancashire, who has been nominated in the ‘Station Staff Award’ category
  • Darin Astbury, a customer services assistant at Brinnington station in Stockport, who has been nominated in the ‘Award for Charity’ category
  • Jane Murray, a station manager working in Cumbria, who has been nominated for ‘Rail Manager of the Year’
  • John Cliff, a customer services assistant at Liverpool Lime Street station, who has been nominated for the 'Customer Service Award'
  • Marc Silverwood, Northern’s on-board systems manager, who has been nominated in the ‘Digital Team of the Year’ category
  • Stewart Hall, a customer services assistant at Brinnington station in Stockport, who has been nominated in the ‘Award for Charity’ category
  • William Edwards, Northern’s digital trains project manager, who has been nominated in the ‘Digital Team of the Year’ category.

Meanwhile, the entire ticket gateline team working at Blackpool North station in Lancashire has been nominated in both the ‘Rail Team of the Year’ and 'Station Staff Award' categories.

On Sunday 10 December, rail timetables across the North of England will change in line with the rest of the National Rail network. Customers are encouraged to use the ‘Check My Timetable’ feature on the Northern website for more information about their local station.
