Northern to mark fifth anniversary of Manchester Arena bombing

Northern will mark the fifth anniversary of the attack on Manchester Arena with a minute's silence, in memory of the victims, at Victoria station on Sunday 22 May at 12pm.

The Railway Chaplain will offer a short prayer at the memorial for the victims’ families and survivors and flowers will be laid throughout the day.

Before the minute’s silence is observed, the station announcers will read out the names of the 22 victims.

A memory book will also be available at the station for people to write down any thoughts or
reflections.

Northern will also observe a minute’s silence at 10.31pm - the exact time of the attack and the station exterior will be illuminated in yellow.

Chris Jackson, regional director at Northern said: “On Sunday, we will pay our respects once more to those who lost their lives in the attack on Manchester Arena. Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by the tragedy and especially with the families and friends of those who lost loved ones.

The area near to Soldiers’ Gate inside Manchester Victoria Station, which is managed by Northern, is a permanent memorial to those who lost their lives at the arena.

Visitors to the station will also have a place to reflect at a bench and blossom tree which was installed at Soldier’s Gate last year.
