Northern services resume on Cumbrian Coast Line

The track was fully examined earlier today, with the first services running along the affected route around midday.

Rail users in the area are still, however, advised to allow additional time for journeys and to check before travel as there may be some residual delays.

Chris Jackson, Regional Director at Northern, said: “I’d like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding yesterday throughout the difficult weather conditions.

“The decision to ask people not to travel was not taken lightly, and I am grateful to those who worked with make sure customers who had to make essential journeys could get where they needed to be.

“The flood waters subsided overnight and, after a thorough check of the line, we are now able to operate a full timetable between Barrow and Carlisle.”
