Northern statement following Sunday cancellations
Chris Jackson, Regional Director at Northern, said: “The coronavirus pandemic is still having a significant impact on many parts of society, including the rail network.
“During the past few weeks, and in line with the general increase in cases across the north west, we have seen a significant increase in the number of employees who have either tested positive for COVID-19 or have had to enter a period of self-isolation.
“Some of these colleagues are drivers and conductors and, as a result of the necessary COVID procedures, we had no option but to cancel a number of services this weekend.
“We are doing all we can to provide the best possible service for customers in extremely difficult circumstance and I’d like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding. I’d also like to thank Northern colleagues who continue to deliver a valuable service that is keeping the north of England on the move.”
