Northern teams up with Pontefract New College and De Lacy Academy Knottingley to inspire future railway leaders

Northern has teamed up with a high school and college in Wakefield, West Yorkshire to inspire railway leaders of the future.

The new partnership will see staff from Northern teach pupils from De Lacy Academy Knottingley and Pontefract New College about rail safety, highlight career opportunities in the railway as well as encourage them to use public transport.

Some of the children will also get to showcase their art projects at their local stations.

Students will take part in an outreach programme Northern supports with UK Parliament to learn about parliament's role and purpose, meet their local MPs and even have the chance to visit parliament.

Kerry Peters, regional director at Northern said: “Northern is so pleased to be able to partner with De Lacy Academy Knottingley and Pontefract New College to promote rail safety and show what the railway can mean to the local community.

“I also hope that we can show these young people how easy is to access the rail network ad build their confidence in travelling by train.”

Northern is the second largest train operator in the UK, with 2,500 services a day to more than 500 stations across the North of England.
