Northern updates services for Aintree Grand National
However, due to industrial action, Northern’s services are still significantly reduced, with the last Northern trains of the day leaving Liverpool Lime Street between 7.02pm and 8.16pm.
All of Northern’s services are expected to be extremely busy. Customers are advised to plan their journey carefully and give themselves extra time to travel.
The last Northern trains that will run from Liverpool Lime Street are:
- 7.02pm to Wigan North Western
- 7.29pm to Urmston
- 8.16pm to Newton-le-Willows
Richard Allan, Deputy Managing Director at Northern, said: “We have been working hard to do more for customers and have added six extra trains to help racegoers get home after the Grand National.
“With the last Northern trains leaving Liverpool Lime Street between 7.02pm and 8.16pm we are asking customers to plan ahead carefully. We are also asking customers travelling direct to Manchester to consider using other train operators’ express services. This will help to free up space on Northern services that stop at many local stations not served by other operators.”
During the day on 8 April, Northern will operate:
- Two trains per hour from Manchester to Liverpool Lime Street (one per hour between Manchester Oxford Road – first train leaving at 8.44am – and Liverpool Lime Street and one per hour between Manchester Victoria – first train leaving at 9.12am - and Liverpool Lime Street) with capacity doubled to four carriages
- Two trains per hour from Wigan North Western (first train at 9.33am) and St Helens Central (first train at 9.50am)
Please check before you travel, full details of the revised timetables and supporting information for customers can be found on the Northern’s website at northernrailway.co.uk/industrialaction.
