Northern Welcomes New Talent
Northern, the UK’s second largest rail operator, has introduced 14 young people into its business, as part of a brand new scheme investing in new talent with a range of opportunities for ambitious individuals.
Four graduates have been employed as part of its Graduate Development Programme, and 10 others as Year in Industry placements.
The scheme has been introduced by franchise owner, Arriva, who has taken on graduates across the group. The new starters are a mix of graduates and students spending between ten and eighteen months gaining valuable work experience, with varied educational backgrounds such as engineering, history, business studies and science.
Richard Allan, Customer and People Experience Director of Northern, comments: ”This programme is one of several initiatives we have to attract talented young people to the business and to introduce them to the careers the railway industry has to offer. They will get the opportunity to be involved in some really interesting projects as they spend time in several different departments and we wish them every success.”
Harminder Chana is a Graduate Management Trainee who has started his placement with the Communications Team. He says: “It is a fantastic opportunity to join a major UK rail operator at such an exciting time. Being based in the Communications Team has given me great companywide exposure at such an early stage and I am excited about the journey ahead.”
