On Sunday 28 August, Northern will be operating a special Sunday service between Preston and Ormskirk to take customers to MotorFest.
The festival, which is held in the historic market town, has everything from motorcycles, super cars, classics and bubble cars with something of interest for everyone.
The train service will operate from 10am and is a simple and convenient way to see the classic cars and bikes which will be on display in the town centre and at Coronation Park from 11am.
Northern has worked closely with the West of Lancashire Community Rail Partnership to plan and provide this service and Richard Watts for the West of Lancashire Community Rail Partnership commented:
"The CRP is delighted to be working with Northern and Motorfest to provide a special Sunday service between Preston and Ormskirk to this exciting event. The train service provides a hassle free way to get to Motorfest and Ormskirk station is ideally situated close to all venues. We look forward to a good response from the local community and to future special Sunday services."
Sharon Keith, Regional Director for Northern comments: “The Motorfest event will bring thousands of visitors to Ormskirk and we are delighted that our strong relationship with Lancashire Community Rail Partnership continues to bring real benefits to our customers across the region.”
Alan Fantom, chair of local rail user group OPSTA, says: “We are delighted to support this special service, going by train will be the easiest way to reach this great event and we encourage people to use it
“Our research shows a real demand for a regular train service on Sundays between Ormskirk and Preston, especially now there is no public transport north of Ormskirk on Sundays. OPSTA members will collect information on how these special trains are used and add it to our existing evidence in support of improved services.”
