Victoria embraces colour change in support of NHS

Working with colleagues at Network Rail, the train operator has altered the external lighting at the station as a tribute to the ongoing fight against the virus.

Chris Jackson, Regional Director at Northern, said: “Everyone at Northern has been working hard over the past few weeks to provide vital rail services for key workers across the north of England.

“Turning our station lights blue is our way of acknowledging the fantastic efforts of these key workers – particularly the doctors and nurses of the NHS who are doing so much to save lives.”

Phil James, north west route director at Network Rail, said: “It was great to work with our railway family colleagues at Northern to thank our incredible NHS staff for all that they’re doing to keep people safe and well.

“I’d also like to thank all rail industry staff for playing their part too in the coronavirus response effort by keeping key workers and freight trains carrying essential supplies, on the move.”   

Manchester Victoria will be turning blue this evening, Thursday, as part of the nationwide ‘clap for carers’ celebration which takes place at 8pm.

Northern is also reminding rail travellers that government guidance and advice still stands and only essential journeys should be made.

Chris added: “Our current timetables are designed to support the efforts of key workers by getting them where they need to be, when they need to be there. We also welcome others who need to make essential journeys. For everyone else our advice is simply to stay at home and help save lives.”
