Travelling during the Christmas and New Year? Be in the know before you go!

At this time of year, with fewer rail users, Network Rail takes the opportunity to carry out essential improvements to the network.

We will be making changes to our timetable, and to some train times, over the Christmas and New Year period. Don't forget, there are no trains on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Travel tips:

When travelling over Christmas by train we recommend you:

  1. Plan ahead.
  2. Check as close to the date of travel as possible for any short notice changes.
  3. Re check on the day of travel, making sure you've checked for last trains back.

The best way to plan your journey is to use our online journey planners, app or NationalRail.co.uk

You can find a breakdown of our planned timetable changes, as well as information about our Customer Experience Centre, Assisted Travel Support and social media teams, and their opening hours over Christmas and New Year, below.
