Due to a derailed train at Grange-over-sands, all lines are blocked between Barrow-In-Furness and Lancaster.

You cannot travel by train as there are no trains running. A replacement bus service is running. 

From Monday 25 March:

  • train services will operate between Carlisle and Barrow-in-Furness (normal timetable resumed)
  • an hourly replacement bus service will operate between Barrow-in-Furness and Lancaster
  • an hourly train service will operate between Lancaster / Preston and Manchester Airport

 Customers are advised to check before travelling.

Delay repay 
If you are delayed by more than 15 minutes, on the scheduled service, you may be entitled to compensation. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim, which can be made at delayrepay.northernrailway.co.uk.

Ticket  acceptance:

  • Acceptance on Transpennine & Avanti services between Lancaster and Carlisle
  • Until Monday 22nd April
  • Applies to customers with a ticket with an origin/destination between Carlisle – Barrow (inclusive) travelling to/from Lancaster
  • Covers advance purchase Northern Only and geographically routed tickets that would not usually be valid via Penrith (examples include ‘via Sellafield’; ‘via Barrow’ etc..).  

 

Buses/Rail Replacement Updates

Changes to Kents Bank

Until Sunday 14 April 2024

Rail replacement bus services now stop at the local bus stops on Allithwaite Road (B5277), at the junction with Kirkhead Road - a 15 minute walk from the station.

 

From Monday 15 April 2024

The main bus service between Barrow-in-Furness and Lancaster will no longer serve Kents Bank.

Instead, the Lancaster to Grange-over-Sands minibus service will be extended to serve Kents Bank, stopping at the station entrance.

Customers travelling between Barrow-in-Furness and Kents Bank will need to change onto the minibus between Grange-over-Sands and Kents Bank at Grange-over-Sands station.
