FAQs
We’re running these timetables to give greater stability and reliability in the train service. COVID is having a knock-on effect to our ability to resource trains from an increased level of sickness and a backlog of training for our drivers to maintain regular route and train knowledge to be able to operate. We’ve made decisions about our timetables based on the levels of resource we have available and prioritising the routes with the highest customer demand, and which support the region’s economic growth.
Apart from the changes mentioned above, the next timetable change will be in December. We will provide more details of this closer to the time.
There are a small number of stations where we are unable to run trains services due to the unavailability of crew. Where this is the case, we will continue to provide alternative transport.
COVID is still having an impact on our staffing levels, especially our backlog of driver training. This isn’t just about training new drivers, but also about the ability for our existing trained drivers to retain the specialist skills and knowledge they need.
To maintain a safe railway, drivers have to be retrained on routes regularly to ensure they retain the specialist skills and knowledge they need. We are also training new drivers. COVID has significantly delayed this training programme and we are working as quickly as possible to train drivers to deliver the train service.
