Lyme Park, Cheshire
Sometimes simplicity is best and nothing beats a day out with your dog surrounded by nature. Located a scenic twenty-minute stroll from Disley, Lyme Park is a magnificent estate surrounded by acres of moorland and gardens, home to a medieval herd of red and fallow deer. Simply wander around the winding paths and admire the very lake that Colin Firth jumped into as Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice!
Dogs are welcome at Lyme year-round, but you're asked to respect your surroundings and protect livestock and wildlife. If you'd like to give them a chance to stretch their legs, there is an off-lead area in Knightslow Wood, through to Pursefield Wood. Once you’ve spent a few hours exploring, look forward to some much-deserved refreshments in the dog-friendly Timber Yard Café.
The Maltings, Warrington
In the North West, pubs don't get much more dog-friendly than The Maltings in Warrington. They pride themselves on offering a welcoming space for dogs of all shapes and sizes while keeping the humans happy with quality pub food and drinks. Here, dogs can look forward to anything and everything from towels, treats and personalised water bowls, to Sunday roasts created especially for dogs! They even have a "Dog of the Week" on Instagram – why not see if your pup can take the crown?
The Caledonia, Liverpool
In the heart of Liverpool, The Caledonia is another dog-friendly favourite and two-time winner of the regional award, where dogs are welcome to enjoy great food and live entertainment with their humans. Check out the events each week, especially their Sunday session which hosts live music and regular guests. There's also a regular Dog Social, where your pooch can mingle and make friends. If you're a student, you can also enjoy 10% off!
Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, Cumbria
All aboard! This iconic railway embarks from Ravenglass, a small coastal village (that doubles as a UNESCO World Heritage site), to Dalegarth in the Eskdale valley. The seven-mile journey passes through picturesque hills, including the Lake District National Park, and takes approximately 40 minutes.
Dogs are welcome on the trains for the small price of £2.50, or you can opt for a dog season ticket for just £20, which entitles you to 12 months of train rides in the Eskdale valley! There's also a gift shop and cafés to enjoy with your four-legged friend, as well as stunning walks in the area.
Windermere Lake Cruises, Cumbria
Also in beautiful Cumbria, Lake Windermere is a must-visit for a fantastic doggy day out in the North. Not only can you take your pup on stunning walks around the lake, Windermere Lake Cruises offers a sightseeing tour across the water itself that is dog-friendly! Dogs travel for free on all scheduled cruises, so you don't need to book them a ticket in advance, as well as welcome on all self-drive motor and rowing boats. En route, why not explore some of the great attractions on offer like Wray Castle or Brockhole Visitor Centre.
