Take the train to the beautiful village of Bamford. Situated in the Upper Derwent Valley, where you can discover the Dambusters history and dramatic views in Bamford. Its just 2 miles from Bamford station to the Derwent Dams, famously used by the Lancaster bombers of 617 Squadron in World War ll to practice using their bouncing bombs for the “Dambuster Raids” against Germany.
Another stop not to be missed is the outdoor hub of Hathersage, a part of the Peak District that has inspired writers and artists for centuries, to discover the area's unique literary links and legends.
Alternatively, hop on the train to Grindleford, the access point for The Longshaw Estate, a large area of open moorland and rugged cliffs owned by the National Trust. Perfect walking country with many fine scenic views, this area of the Peak District National Park is a walker's paradise.
