The river Goyt runs though the valley which in the High Peak in North Derbyshire and is home to the rural towns of New Mills, Whaley Bridge and Chapel-en-le-Frith. The area is surrounded by beautiful countryside and heather covered moors.
The town of New Mills is set in an area of spectacular natural beauty standing above a natural rocky gorge, known as The Torrs, where the River Sett joins the River Goyt. From here you can explore the high street, where there is a wide range of independent food retailers and has a good selection of restaurants, cafés and pubs. Don’t miss the Torrs Riverside Park - the park 'under the town' - extends to two miles and is a superb place to walk, picnic and learn about the natural and industrial history of the area.
Whaley Bridge station takes you into the heart of this charming town, known as the 'Gateway to the Goyt Valley', Whaley Bridge, boasts a tranquil location at the head of the scenic Peak Forest Canal. A great place to grab a bite to eat with a range of friendly pubs, restaurants and café, plus an attractive Memorial Park with a children’s play area.
