District that has inspired writers and artists for centuries. Visit North Lees Hall and explore the place that is said to have inspired Charlotte Bronte’s Thornfield Hall when writing Jane Eyre. Take a walk to Stanage Edge – the longest gritstone edge in England and famous as the filming location for Pride & Prejudice starring Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennett.

In and around the village are also sites associated with the legend of Robin Hood, his lieutenant, Little John is buried in the churchyard of St Michaels.

If shopping is more your thing, Hathersage is a great place to browse some unique independent shops and discover cosy places to stop for lunch.

And don’t forget to pack a swimming costume, Hathersage has one of the UK’s few outdoor swimming pools, opened in the 1930s, the heated 100ft pool is open year-round and provides views of Stanage Edge, Hathersage Church and the surrounding hills.
