Part of the former Liverpool and Manchester Railway, Newton-le-Willows Station is in the borough of St Helens. Opened in 1861, it now serves the smaller towns that no longer have their stations, including Billinge, Golborne and Haydock.

The original station was redeveloped to cope with the increasing passenger numbers, with the work finishing in 2018.
